I'm a mean, brown, trimming Fat machine!

HERE'S AN UPDATE: I'm losing the weight, baby! No more FIVE GUYS going two weeks since the vow! I am also eating less sweets and trying to bring back the VEG in vegetarian! Its hard cus I'm a bread gal. I may not touch your meat BUT I will DESTROY your bread. So far I have lost 8 pounds...I know cus I have been measuring. I'm trying to eat less of what I want cus I read that most people have issues with portion control. Lets see if it can be done... I am also looking for a signature snack. I want something really nature, no MSG, High Fructose anything, red #5 or 6. Just pure, nature and easy to digest. Here are the contenders: Peanuts which are high in protein PLUS easy to carry. Dark Chocolate...the ultimate satisfying snack... the darker the better health experts say. Carrots...on again off again snack...I'm blind as a bat cus I don't eat enough of this vegetable. So far these are the contenders....who will win?

New Found Cool Thing!

Once in a while someone will come up with a really cool idea based on sheer common sense. As a dark skin lady, it was always hard to find things like make up, panty hose, undies. I was kind of stuck with the standard black, white, pink , tropical color (this what I always picked) or nude. It sucked cus everyone can kind of see you bra if you wearing a light color cotton teen or in the future a white dress.

Well here comes My Skins, a lingerie line that is based solely on the color of ladies skins. If you are tan, then rock your tan. If you are pink, rock your pink. If you are green, work your green (the hubby and I looooved Star Trek)! No more embarrassing funny color panty lines !

Super Deals: Dresses $300 and under!

Its that time when I try to help Brides to be save money on their Wedding dresses! I never could understand the trend to blow a life's fortune on a piece of clothing. Whether you have tons of money or just a penny, saving money is good! It doesn't make any sense to spend a thousand on a wedding dress (unless its custom made for you and you only) when you can save hundreds on something just as nice. The way I see it if you spend tons of money on your dress then it had better fit perfect or else you will also have a great big fat alterations bill as well. If you buy a dress for $250 then need to get it altered for another $100 you have spent a total of $350 and that's it! It just common spending savvy to me, that's all. Anyway here are the dresses, all of them are from Unique Vintage, which is the place I got my dress: This dress is too cute. I am normally not a puff ball gown dress kind of person but if I were having a big fancy church wedding I would wear this! Its only $274 at Unique Vintage! This dress is another puffy ball gown that's super hott! It looks like it cost a fortune but it only cost $275! Who says budget savvy has to look cheap? Plus it comes in white too! Unique Vintage! This dress is in my opinion for the classy very traditional bride who has always wanted the white dress. This Strapless stunner is only $188. For the hot mama who has been working out for months! Blinged out and drop dead sexy, this dress is perfect for a women who loves the classic starlet look. Only $ 148 at Unique Vintage. I would've picked this dress If I wasn't having less then 20 people. Seriously glam! This dress looks like a movie star would wear it. Also at Unique Vintage and only $228! For the Anti-Bride, she hates white, she hates rings and hates cake. But does want to look like a million bucks. This gold and mocha dress is pretty, sexy but not sweet. At Unique Vintage, only $198. City Hall in the Media- The Office

City Hall Vs "The Real Wedding" It is an age old debate for any couple who has made it passed the usual mating rituals: Ya know the rituals,

  • The first meeting ("Does my breath stink?"),
  • The waiting period for the first call("Why won't he just pick up the bloody phone already and call me!")
  • The first kiss...("seriously, you need a breathe mint")
  • The third date ( "Victoria Secret's here I come")
  • The first "I love you...and I really mean it"
  • The moving in ("Honey lets NOT tell my parents we are living in sin, ok?")
  • The first, second, third and fourth major argument that threaten to end your relationship.
  • The "now what" stage...
  • The realization that the two of you are better together than apart or that you are stuck with your mate for a very long time.
  • and finally the will share my last slice of pizza but won't become a completely different person unless you are footing the bill for plastic surgery kind of love that makes everyone around you just dreadfully sick.

Yup once you have gone through the wire you reach the wedding bells and bills. Do you literally go for broke with everyone you know watching you and cheering you on or do you save your money, have an amazing time with tons of pissed of family members to come home to?

Honestly its really up to the couple. I know some women who would just die if they can't have all of there college sorority sisters at their wedding. I am not like this but I can understand it. I guess for most ladies the first instinct is to invite everyone who has ever smiled at you. It was mine until my FI (who is quite blunt) told me nope or we would be years trying to save for it.

I think that in the end if you are Man and wife or whatever thats what really matters. In the eyes of the law and in your hearts.

Here is a funny clip that touches the heart and funny bone of every couple who has looked at the bill for a three tier wedding cake or a couple of centerpieces:

Ex-Bachelorette Jen Schefft has some bridal budget tips

Here is a celeb with tons of common sense. When the going gets tough this ex-Bachelorette starts whipping her wedding budget and bod into shape! In 2003, Jen Schefft won our hearts as the gal who won Andrew Firestone's heart on the Bachelor. After they broke up, she turned the tables by staring as the main fox in the Bachelorette. However, she was still unlucky in love until she met her current man who happens to be a trader.

As Luck would have it shortly after her hubby to be proposed, Jen lost her job in sales. Instead of sulking into a corner, she decided to trim the wedding excess and go on with the show. This is the scoop according to US magazine:

The Venue: Jen isn't going to a rental shop to rent out tables and chairs, they're "going with everything that comes with the venue [an Italian restaurant]," saved money by booking a DJ instead of a band, and isn't worrying about matching ribbons on the programs and invitations. She said, "Even saving $200 is saving $200."

The Guest: Jen and hubby are just having family and friends. The total head count will be about 100 folks.

On her fashion: Jen said, "You can save a lot on shoes — no one really even sees them . . . The bracelet I'll buy, but it won't be, you know, real pearls." She's also mindful of how much she's spending on the dress and explained, "I'm not going to wear a $20,000, or even a $10,000 dress. I just don't think it's worth it for one day." Plus, Jen is doing her own makeup and having her hair stylist do her hair!

Wanna get more tips check her out in Wedding Channel Magazine where she has her own Celeb bridal blog:

Wedding money saving tips!

I was doing my wedding search and i found this article kind of within an article. Some wedding vendor lady was super pissed cus she thought the article was giving bad advice. Here's the Wedding Vendors Comments:

http://lasvegasweddingnetwork.org/2009/04/17/wedding-professionals-unite-against-these-suggestions/

The article is called The Big Wedding Money-Wasters:

http://food.yahoo.com/blog/foxyfestivities/19773/the-big-wedding-money-wasters/

First of all, I think that both sides are sort of right. Wedding vendors DO charge too much MOST times. They do it cause its "your wedding and it must be perfect". Yada yada yada and blah blah. Some would charge for the air your guest breath if they could see it. Wanna read some horror stories of brides getting cleaned out read Bridal Bargains.

However, there is a point when a little DIY turns into all in one super Bridezilla. There some things that a bride should not do Not because we can't do the job (I have been cooking since I was ten, I know how to make a mean dozen of cupcakes)but because its a LUXURY not to have too.

Its part of that one day relax and be pretty thing which is a resounding note in the wedding vendor song. I think its good to take the advice that best suits you.

Consignment Heaven! Recessionista Bride tips!

Yup, its that time again when I write a post. I have been flooded working my butt off at work so I haven't had much time to write. Anyway I as usual I am always looking for the hottest deals and any way to wed for less so here is the hot stuff: CONSIGNMENT STORES! These aren't your regular grandma consignment stores. No these are the hottest hand me downs of the year. Big names like Gucci, Fendi, Prada, Helmut Lang e.t.c. Here are some of the hot stores: Christabelle' s Closet: This site is user friendly and pretty easy. Find what you need by size or category. http://christabellescloset.com/

INA NYC- Its a real store based in NYC but has a cool Ebay online store just click shop online. Bonus has a cool Helmut Lang dress in white. http://www.inanyc.com/

Second Time Around http://www.secondtimearound.net/index.aspx I live in the DMV (DC, Maryland and Virginia area) and we have one over her that I love. On the site it has store locations but it doesn't have shop online options.

Annie Creamcheese Also in the DMV area and Vegas, this shop has tons of high class fashion and it has the option of shopping online. Only one gripe, its hard to find sizes for curvy gals. Other than that its very posh. http://www.anniecreamcheese.com/home

Renaissance Consignment Boutique
based in Birmingham Alabama this shop is only for the trendy "Ladies, Teens and Queens." I love that they have a user friendly online shop. http://www.renaissanceconsignment.com/

Rice and Bean Vintage really cool really user friendly! http://www.riceandbeansvintage.com/vintageclothing.html

Consignment Store Tips:

  1. Know what you are looking at. Learn a little bit about fashion labels go into fashion and bridal high fashion boutiques. Really look at the tags and the way the clothes are made before dropping $500 at a consignment shop for that fab dress.
  2. Stare that item down. Look for loose threads, stains, tears or any signs of wear. If it rips on your big day, you have just wasted your money whether it be $5 or a million.
  3. Bring a friend who is honest but not too chatty. Sometimes a chatty buddy will make you miss your deals. Yea, talking about the latest plastic surgery craze is fun (and sometimes funny as hell) BUT you just may walk out on a great steal cus you buddy wants to go to Starbucks.
  4. Sell some stuff to gain some stuff. Look into making deals with your friends at the consignment store. Its Good Shopping Karma. Try the folks at the Buffalo Exchange: http://www.buffaloexchange.com/index.htm
  5. Have Fun!
So there you have it!No need to spend thousands when you can just get it for less! Who says helping keep the world green is boring?
