Hidden Treasures in Georgetown part 3

Welcome back to my segment of Hidden Treasures of... I have been writing about Georgetown because its amazing. Every where you go there is a shop and a restaurant at every corner. The folks here are really into their health here and it has tons of shops that can used for bridal needs.

Today I'm writing about a shop in Georgetown Park Mall. I really need to check out the whole town but this chocolate shop is really really cool. Truffles Belgian Chocolates candies are made in Switzerland and Fed EXed over night so they are always fresh. With lots of cool yummy favors to chose from you cant lose. Some of my favorites are Divine Red Calvados Praline ( A red heart shaped chocolate.) which is a white chocolate shell coated with red-tinted cocoa butter enveloping an apple liqueur center , Passion Fruit Truffles which I thought was super cool and unique favor for truffles. It is made of white chocolate truffle filling and dusted with powdered sugar, Raspberry Heart Praline ( another heart shaped chocolate) which is White creamy chocolate over layered raspberry dark chocolate filling. All truffles are $2.00 ea. Truffles Belgian Chocolates also has traditional chocolate strawberries. Say you saw them on my blog and you can get $2.00 ea instead of the regular $3 ea. just ask for the store owner she is super nice! One of the coolest things here are the chocolate miniature buildings of the Washington Monuments. They feature all five in choices of white, dark and milk chocolate for $4.95 ea. They make great favors. Speaking of wedding favors at Truffles they can make favors for a $1.00! Want to learn more : http://www.trufflesgeorgetown.com/index.html

Even cool spin offs like pumpkin pie bites or turkey (tempeh) with roasted red potatoes bring the nostalgia of a thanksgiving dinner. This beautiful Centerpiece is from For You Flowers. Its amazing. "Burnt orange roses, peach carnations, bronze cushion spray chrysanthemums, rust button spray chrysanthemums, red alstroemeria and salal - accented with faux grapes and apples - are delivered in an olive pedestal bowl." Fancy Shamancy!

When you are having a bad day...I mean nothing is going right. I mean you get out of the bed, cant find your slippers, cant find your tooth brush, cant find the tooth paste. Out of milk, so no cereal (to me this is a big thing), misplaced your keys, scarred your glasses, missed your train, cant get change to ride the bus.....the list goes on. When you have those days...take a breath, relax, and remember today is just one day so enjoy it. yup I know its hard but you must try. So whats the point and where is the wedding stuff? I talk to my friends who are getting married, or are married, or know crazy brides and they all talk about money...some even cry about it. So I want to share some tips I found out about just because I love weddings, wedding magazines, the whole nine yards. Today's topic is catering/party foods: I do believe that IF you have the money you should ALWAYS go with the wedding help. Seriously, they really make your day easier its their job. The main purpose of my blog is to help those who dont have or dont want to spend the money. I think that wedding foods are really costly. But here are some ways to feed guest fancy style without the sticker shock. Pizza on Puff Pastry Why cus everyone loves pizza. Puff pastry makes pizza look fancy. Ingredients like fresh basil, tomato sauce, mozzarella, red peppers, olives, oregano, red tomatoes, spinach...really whatever you want. Bake for 10 minutes at 375 degrees. just cut into small square let cool to room temp and tada put it out there. Dont have time try this Real Simple Recipe: START WITH: A large cheese pizza. (Ask for it unsliced and, if possible, slightly underbaked.) TO MAKE: Avoiding the crust, cut out mini pizzas with round cookie or biscuit cutters. Heat the rounds at 400ยบ F for about 5 minutes. Top with slices of olives, marinated mushrooms, chopped prosciutto, an anchovy fillet, or fresh herbs (such as basil, flat-leaf parsley, rosemary, thyme, or oregano). http://www.realsimple.com/realsimple/content/0,21770,674552,00.html Fruit Kabobs This is super easy. I do this all the time. Get skewers, tons of them. Cut pineapples, honey dew melons, strawberries, cherries, kiwi anything that doesn't brown so apples and bananas are not good. Put pieces on the skewers and serve. Shrimp in martini glasses Put some already cooked shrimp on the sides of cocktail glasses and add a tablespoon cocktail sauce with a lemon wedge. Totally fancy! Get martini glasses from the dollar store...I will. Bruschetta The legendary Italian bread snack. Get some Italian bread top it with tomatoes, basil, Parmesan, mozzarella, salt, pepper. The key is to broil it until the cheese melts but stop when it starts to turn golden or when bread begins to blacken. 5 mins to 7 mins is enuff. Chicken tenders and/ or veggie tenders. This is the fun part. Go to a warehouse discounter, whole foods grocery store, local grocery store and buy in bulk. Obey the directions and dont use the quicker time. Put Barbue Q sauce, honey mustard sauce, hot sauce and ketchup on the side. Garnish with mint leaves. Veggie Pasta I love doing a thai peanut sauce with noodles, add peanuts, peas, yellow pepper, broccoli, coconut flakes. mix and serve. yum! Walnut Baklava I love this. Its sweet and alot of people still dont know what it is. MY RECIPE (VEGAN): A really cool desert. Get an all fruit preservative ( I love Polaner) get the fruit you wish to use ( if you have strawberry jelly also buy strawberries) buy fancy mini dairy free pastry shells ( http://www.filofactory.com/). Add a table spoon of jelly, fruit, crushed walnuts or pecans, bake for 10 min at 375.

A Rosy Outlook on Life!

I am loving the color pink!!!! I'm not girly...I like the Eagles, I love video games, I can eat faster then anyone I know and I can happily hang with only guys for the rest of my life. However, I think there is an inner women in all of us, even in men...(I have seen men run from bugs, so called macho dudes). After fighting with myself ( "I SHOULD want blue and green But I dont") and seeing other folks ( "WOW, I want that!" and "Yea...Its nice, I guess.") I finally decided to embrace my inner glam gal. Ready Made weddings!

So much goes into planning a wedding. Flowers, the cake, the dress, the waiter staff, the venue etc as the list goes on. Its enough to drive anyone insane. So Today I want to make it easier. Why? Because not everyone is a DIY genius. Because your wedding should be the happiest day of your life. Because thats what I'm writing about...darn it!
so here we go!
1. Destination: NO HEADACHE!
As you know destination weddings are the biggest craze. Beautiful beaches, soothing water and everything already done is what to expect when you say "oui" to a destination wedding. The quest is not to go into debt and although most cruises are "affordable" it takes the internet savvy to find the best deals. My advice: BOOK EARLY! Its important, two ladies can be on the same boat and one could've spent thousands while the other booked early and spend a few hundreds. Same boat , two different ladies...it makes a difference. trust me.
Here are some good deals for the anti DIYers:
The Ships:
Carnival Fun Ships.
Have your wedding shipboard or pick a destination, either way is good with Carnival. With Packages starting $1,195 depending on the ship and ports, it meets the Under $2000 wedding requirement. Packages include pretty much everything: "ceremony preformed by a non denominational officiant, bridal bouquet with matching boutonniere for the groom, wedding cake with keepsake topper" and more! Call the "Fun Ship" Wedding Department at 1-800-933-4968 or email: weddings@carnival.com! Score!
Another cruise option is Royal Caribbean Cruises.
Wanna try rock climbing on a Rock Climbing Wall or ice skating in the ice skating rink? How about getting married like a celebrity on an Alaskan glacier? With Royal Caribbean Cruise you can get do it at an affordable price. Most packages start at $1395.oo which again gets the seal of Under $2000 wedding approval.
There are tons more but you gotta look.
Resorts and Hotel Packages:
Sandals Resort
There are so many packages here its crazy! Having a small event try a free wedding. For Real, when you stay six nights(your honeymoon, hello) ...your wedding is FREE with the WeddingMoon package. Want a luxury wedding? Try Preston Bailey's Floral Elegance Collection for $1700. Preston Bailey a well known legend in the wedding industry put his personal touches in each collection. Also you can try the Signature Wedding Package start $1,600(in Jamaica and $1700 in other island) which includes Personal Wedding Consultant, Beautiful Setting for a Reception, Professional Videography of Ceremony & Reception (Standard DVD), Chef's Selection of Caribbean Inspired Hors d' Oeuvres (For Bride, Groom and two guests) and more! Awesome!
Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort Aruba & Jamaica
If you book a minimum of seven nights (again a typical honeymoon) your wedding is free at either locations! At Montego Bay the Island Wedding Package is only $450! It includes the minister, preparation of legal fees and documents, on site wedding coordinator's service, and more. At Aruba, the wedding packages start at $800! Score!
Bolongo Bay Beach Resort
If you dont have time to get your passport together try Bolongo Bay Beach Resort in St Thomas. All you need is an I.D. and proof of citizenship. Wedding packages start at $1000 here. A good venue with little hassle.

Viva Las Vegas!

Known for their quick and convenient weddings, Las Vegas is a great place to get married if you just don't have the time, money, or desire the hassle of planning your own wedding.

First Stop is the Artisan Hotel. The Artisan Hotel is asmall yet utterly beautiful boutique hotel. Despite the lack of a casino. Its Vegas' first all inclusive resort. Wine receptions for all guest daily and the building is fabulous. Here $1,100 (plus $60 minister fee and $40 photographer gratuity fee) will get you a beautiful wedding in a lush garden. Limo, 100 digital pictures on a cd, two bottles of champagne, wedding coordinator, photographer fee included, brides choice of flower bouquet and more. Awesome deal for under $2000.

I WILL ADD MORE DEALS LATER TILL THEN LOVE YA !

zut! J'ai mis aime les gens stupides, ils sont mauvais !

Yup thats how I feel. I'm really tired of folks trying to compare my wedding blog with other wedding blogs out there. Its stupid, with so many people out there, the typical wedding genres are just mind bogglingly dumb. How about this: people like what they like! I dont have to be placed in a section. I'm not offbeat cus I'm more hip hop with no tattoos, I'm not prim and proper cus I can burp the English alphabet, I'm not fabulously rich cus I'm just not....So what am I? What is my blog about? Its about saving money no matter who you are. If you dye your hair red and have tons of tattoos and are a Satan worshipper, this is ones for you! If you dont wear white after Labor Day, you have your kitchen organized by the first letter and always wear your Jimmy Choos, This ones for you! If you listen to Hip hop, ride the bus to work, wear urban jeans and like guys who look like they play for the NBA...this ones for you! If you are a lesbian who has ten adopted kids, a groove sexy lady at home and isnt ashamed this ones for you! if you are a guy....You get the point! My Blog isnt about the personality its about the intent= SAVE YOUR MONEY! DONT OVER SPEND ON WEDDING STUFF! BUY ONLY WHAT YOU NEED! (Quick Disclaimer: I'm not saying that all red heads are Satan Worshippers...most are not but I'm using exaggerated stereotypes to explain my point) LOVE me, the creator of the Under $2000 Wedding Blog.

More Serena

You know she is super cool...its pretty serena! I think we all can learn a thing or two from this chica! I agree with most things she said with exception of the internet COCO MYLES is awesome! but yea there is alot of fraud out there on the NET! Anywho I am so glad she did her wedding plans this way. I goes to show you, some people do care about the well-being of others esp when times are hard. now serena part two: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H20sr7rqIF8

best ways and affordable places to propose

Some Guys dont have a romantic bone in their body. No matter what hints you leave they almost always mess it up. Sometimes you outright tell them what you want and they give you everything BUT that...Its like they have a self sabotage mechanism! Well if this sounds like your Fiance or this sounds like you, I'm here to help. Cus nothing is more undesirable then an unromantic person ( maybe a messy person...I'm guilty but i'm getting better). Why? If you are paying the bills, taking care of personal hygiene, reliable in daily things then why is it important to be romantic? Because without romance you become a good roommate. Thats why. Not a hot stud or sexy mama...a good roommate/friend. not sexy.
This is very true in serious relationships. When two people become serious alot can change. When love is fresh and minty, everyone is a Casanova. I'm a Casanova, you are a Casanova your mom is even a love cupid. The world seems so wonderful and vast. However as it ages the daily grind can make everything seem so lackluster. Even proposals can seem weak if not presented right.
And yes you can just pop the question on one knee which is great but lets make it memorable. Think about it, this is the story your lady will tell all of her life.
Yea times are hard so here are ways to pop the question with out the cost of a small car:
1. Invite her to your place and make dinner ( or order out from her favorite restaurant) put some candles in her favorite color ( HELLO YOU CAN GET CANDLES ANYWHERE) then hide the ring in a covered plate. Decorate the plate with a rose, red roses mean love. Tell her that desserts in there. eat your food like normal and then tell her that you gotta try some dessert. Tada..pop the question!
2. Call her immediate family (they must like you) tell them you have a surprise for her and you want them to be there. Take her some where like a park. Have her family waiting in their cars close by. Bend your knee like tradition but then stop and say "you know what some one should see this" call her family and then propose.
3. give her a massage after work and tie the ring to the massage oil. put the massage oil closer to her then you and ask if she can grab the oil then say "whats that dangling from the bottle" tada!
4. Write her a note "Will you marry me?" and send some flowers to her job then wait till she calls or call her.
5. On her off day, get up a take her to the nearest hotel ( book early= good price)for two days. Saturday and Sunday are good. Pack goodies like a champagne bottle or sparkling cider(ur local grocery store has a great variety of cider not just apple) , flutes, a box of chocolates ( even Hersey Kisses) and toss everything on the bed while she is in the shower then tada pop the question.
6. write her a song...but not a sappy love song. its cheesy and very typical. Write her a funny one thats short at the end sing "so will you marry me?"
7. Go walking somewhere really pretty like a pond, a local shopping strip anywhere. begin a discussion about anything that will not lead to a fight... weather, music, fashion ( "why do women wear ..., what do you think?) , sports, remember whens, movies and TV are all good talk starters. Then stop the convo abruptly and get on one knee saying "Stop right there I really need to ask you something.."
There are many ways to do it. But remember that the whole point is to be romantic...caring, considerate and passionate. You can have a million dollars or negative $35, its about your approach. Be ready for a yes or a no either way its good. Of course a yes is good but a no can be good too. Would you really want to marry someone who isnt ready?
So there are my tips...Good luck and lots of love!

Sorry it took so long!!! NEW POST!!!

I'm sorry it took so long to post. I didnt want to make a post around September 11th. I think it would be inappropriate. Although its a wedding blog and weddings are super important to me, there are events that are even more important than savings. The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong. Mahatma Gandhi On September 11, Americans learned about hatred and what hatred can do. Hatred ruins people. It turns the brave into cowards, the wise into idiots, humans into mere soul-less shells. September 11 took our fathers, mothers, sisters, daughters, wives, husbands, sons...It took a piece that will always be missed. The hate wanted to consume like a plague but despite its efforts it failed. We didnt fight with weapons, we fought with love. Love is the only thing that can battle hate. The love I'm writing about isnt the love of passion but of strength and a beating heart. The heart that beats for our country, our family, our prosperity, our lives across this nation. This September 11th week I want to remember our lost and fight for the beating heart of our future. When I despair, I remember that all through history the ways of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it--always. Mahatma Gandhi

Engagement Party Wear!!

B4 the Church, B4 the Garter, B4 the limousine, B4 the synagogue, B4 the white dress comes the engagement party! I know what you are thinking, "why would I spend even more money on another party, I'm just trying to keep my wedding afloat". Trust me I wouldn't have a blog if I wasn't broke however its possible to have an engagement party too! Just not one with caviar, champagne, all of Washington's elite, waiters and fireworks. Nope its not going to happen, sorry folks. How and who's paying for it?What do you serve? Where do you host it? who do you invite? what do you wear and what do you do to entertain folks? Traditionally, its the Bride's family that pays for it. Nowadays so many couples are going all the costs alone. The main point of an Engagement party is to tell folks "Hey we are no longer just shacking up,we are law abiding citizens who plan to get married and stay together 4 ever !!" I know dramatic but I have my own personal issues. Anywho the great thing about this party is that you once you have it every one now knows and you should stop getting weird questions. What do you serve? Anything! Here are some ideas to not go crazy by staying within your budget. 1. Have a dessert and lemonade party at your house. Buy a couple of pies, cheesecakes, make some brownies, buy cookies and make lemonade with lemon juice. Go to a wholesale supplier or your local bakery/grocery store. 2. Go to a buffet restaurant. Make a reservation and ask about party discounts. You get to pay one flat rate for more food. 3. Go to an amusement park like six flags, call ahead of time (I think five to six weeks ahead is the min.) about group parties and DISCOUNTS. 4. Fun restaurants like Dave& Busters are great places to host your e party. Plus its fun for all ages. Appetizers and Beverages are enough. 5. Host an out door picnic. DIY sandwiches and potato salad with soda and water selections. You will only have to pay for the park permit, most places have picnic areas and bring a CD player with out door stereos. 6. Have an all adult party at a nightclub...you don't even have to reserve a table begin the party at you house with the announcement then invite your guest to your favorite hot spot. Pay for your first round of drinks and admission. Also go online to get free passes for you and your partner. Invite only those you care about and who care about you. The fun part is what do you wear? Traditionally most gals wear a dress. I agree with this rule most cases but there are some exceptions. Here's some of my picks for the high fashionista based on her event locations that I mentioned above: 1. Dessert and Lemonade party. Isaac Mizrahi for Target® Bollywood Summer Dress - White/ Gold Just beautiful, whimsical dress for only $44.99! Isaac Mizrahi for Target® Sateen Dress - Marsala Red Price: $39.99 Really pretty and simple. Great for a restaurant. 3.Amusement Park. Dereon Mystic Jumpsuit Style: DE-C8-2417 Price :$99 Thanks to beautiful Beyonce ( a queen of fashion) we can all look sexy and fly while riding roller coasters. I wouldn't recommend a dress here. 4.Fun restaurant. Arden B Rugby Stripe Sweater Dress Style Number: 40043265 $88.00 Cute, Sporty, Forgiving and fun. Perfect for a fun restaurant. Delia's Rosalie Dress Item#: 155268 Price: $44.50 I love floral prints outside. This dress is really vibrant and colorful which is ideal on a sunny day. 6. NightClub. Tiger Foil Plunging Halter Dress Style: BP-R2G00015_E63 Price: $64 Why did I pick this dress? Cus its hot. Think about it. In a night club you want a sizzling party dress. One that makes you feel sexy and desirable. At your engagement party you want to be the center of attention. this BABY PHAT dress is both. Yea this dress isnt for the faint of heart but if you dare you should try this number on.

Hidden Treasures of Georgetown part 2

I'm back with my segment Hidden Treasures Of Georgetown and I have even more places to write about! So here we GO! First place is a funky cool store named LUSH. Lush is a boutique (known nationwide) that sells handmade soaps, lotions, shower gels, lip balm...etc. The awesome thing about Lush is that alot of their wonderful creations are vegan! The Lush Team is also eco savvy, no pretty bottles or wrap junk here! Lush has started petitions to ban paperbags as they just lead to a growing problem in our landfills AND streets! The lovely ladies in Lush are some of the nicest gals I have ever met in a store. They showed me their affordable goods. Some of my favorites are White Wedding $5.95 (You never saw this one coming, lol). White Wedding is a vegan bath fizz that smells just like "the perfect bridal bouquet" with ylang ylang, begarmot and of course rose. With a discount for bulk orders this would be the perfect gift to your bridesmaids, your guests or to the bride herself. Looking for something Blue? Why not bathe in it! Yes another bath fizz, Big Blue also $5.95 is a great gift for the nervous bride to be, just the thing to get her back into the wedding spirit. The Ring of Rose Butercream smells just like...well you know. its a super moisturizer that softens the skin. 3.5 oz $9.45. Fair Trade Foot Lotion is a personal favorite of mine. For $19.95, you get a natural pain reliever, a pink lotion, super moisturizer with cocoa butter all in one, a super gift for the bride with happy feet! Finally want to have a hot bachelorette party? Drop the Sex Bomb! I mean bath fizz, silly. for $ 6.15 you can get this sexy bath fizz and have a great night. www.lush.com
